Personalised digital healthcare app

Indonesia is committed to improving general access to healthcare by driving digitalisation in this sector through innovation projects and better networking of the health system. In this context, one of Indonesia's largest healthcare providers aimed to develop a revolutionary solution: Indonesia's first digital health app that is perfectly tailored to the individual needs and lifestyles of its users.

The solution should be designed not only to enable users to arrange medical online services but also to offer advice on preventive care and provide information for a healthier lifestyle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Led requirements gathering and engineering to understand key user and business needs.

  • Mapped the current workflows within both the patient and doctor apps.

  • Proposed and implemented new workflows to support the newly built ecosystem.

  • Designed and tested prototypes, creating new screens for enhanced user experiences.

  • Adapted existing designs to align with the new workflows while maintaining consistency.

  • Established a design system and successfully migrated to a new design tool for improved efficiency.

Problem Statement

CHALLENGE

Indonesia aimed to improve healthcare access by digitalising its services. The client required a comprehensive digital solution that could seamlessly integrate online medical services with offline capabilities, catering to a wide range of user needs.

GOAL

To develop a digital health app that not only facilitates medical consultations and appointments but also supports preventive care, lifestyle advice, and serves as a cornerstone of a broader digital healthcare ecosystem.

THE APPROACH & RESEARCH PLAN

  • Created a research and design plan to be presented to the client for approval with timeline specified

  • Conducted a two-week on-site session in Jakarta, where we met with the client and their partners to foster a deeper understanding of their needs and objectives.

  • We meticulously mapped the existing workflows in the patient and doctor apps, identifying inefficiencies and uncovering opportunities for improvement. Detailed user personas and journey maps were created to guide the design process, keeping user needs at the forefront of every decision.

  • Led brainstorming sessions that generated innovative ideas for the app’s features and overall functionality. Low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes were developed to visualise new workflows, enabling us to gather initial feedback from stakeholders and iterate on concepts early in the process.

  • The design and prototyping phase involved crafting high-fidelity prototypes that incorporated new user flows and intuitive interfaces tailored to the needs of both patients and doctors. We established a comprehensive design system to maintain consistency across the app and support scalable updates, while also migrating the design assets to a new tool to enhance efficiency and collaboration among the design and development teams.

  • Conducted tests with real users to validate the new designs and gather actionable feedback

  • we worked closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of design and development processes. We established a continuous feedback loop with the client and their partners

OUTCOMES AND KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Successfully launched the app, which became the first of its kind in Indonesia, significantly enhancing user access to healthcare services through the integrated digital ecosystem.

  • Highlighted the importance of seamless user experiences in driving adoption in digital healthcare solutions.

  • Demonstrated the value of a well-structured design system in maintaining consistency and supporting agile development.

  • Reinforced the impact of user-centric design strategies in meeting both business objectives and user needs while contributing to the client’s overall digital ecosystem.
